What Happens When You Arrive on a Private Jet at Austin Airport

From wheels-down to leaving the airport in under ten minutes — the arrival experience at AUS and EDC.

The arrival experience is one of the most underrated parts of flying private into Austin. Compared to a commercial arrival at AUS — where deplaning, walking to baggage claim, waiting for bags, and finding a rideshare can eat an hour — a private arrival is over before you finish thanking the crew. Here is exactly what happens minute by minute.

Wheels Down to Taxi In

Your aircraft lands and taxis directly to the FBO ramp — Signature or Atlantic at AUS, Henriksen at EDC. Total taxi time is typically 3–5 minutes at AUS and 1–2 minutes at EDC. Ground crew positions the airstairs, unloads baggage onto a cart, and signals the cabin door is clear.

Off the Aircraft

You walk down the airstairs to the ramp. If you arranged ramp-side ground transportation, your car is waiting fifteen feet from the aircraft door. If not, the FBO coordinator escorts you the short walk through the lounge to the main entrance where rideshares, taxis, or rentals stage.

Baggage

Your bags travel with you. They come off the aircraft directly onto the FBO cart and are placed in your vehicle within two minutes. There is no baggage claim, no carousel, no waiting. Lost luggage on Part 135 charter is essentially impossible because the bags never leave your sight.

International Arrivals

If you are arriving from Mexico, the Caribbean, or beyond, US Customs and Border Protection officers meet the aircraft at the FBO. Clearance is typically 5–15 minutes — passport, customs declaration, any duty processing — handled in a quiet office at the FBO rather than a packed international hall. APIS (Advance Passenger Information System) must be filed 60+ minutes before arrival, which your charter coordinator handles.

Ground Transportation Options at AUS and EDC

  • Pre-arranged car service or executive Suburban — ramp-side pickup at most FBOs
  • Rental car — both Avis and Hertz can deliver to the FBOs at AUS; rental coordination at EDC via FBO
  • Rideshare — Uber/Lyft pickup zones are 1–2 minutes walk from the FBO entrance at AUS
  • Personal vehicle — secured inside-gate parking at both AUS FBOs and EDC, typically complimentary for arriving/departing passengers

The Time Compression

A commercial AUS arrival from NYC: deplaning 10 min, walk to baggage 7 min, wait for bags 15 min, walk to rideshare 5 min, rideshare wait 10 min. Total: 47 minutes. A private arrival at the same gate: 7 minutes door to driving away. That hour back is one of the everyday luxuries that adds up over a year of private travel.
