Why SAT

90 miles south, sometimes the better play.

San Antonio International offers two strong FBOs (Signature and Million Air), full customs for international departures, and runway length that handles every aircraft category up through ultra long range. For travelers based south of downtown Austin, drive time to SAT can rival or beat AUS during rush hour.

We coordinate ground transport from Austin to SAT for clients who prefer it — typically a 75-minute black car ride. The arithmetic works whenever SAT availability or pricing beats AUS by enough to offset the drive.

Private jet charter at SAT — San Antonio International Airport

Private jet charter at SAT — San Antonio International Airport, ICAO KSAT — is the regional alternative we recommend for south Austin, San Marcos, and New Braunfels travelers, and the airport we route to when Austin is weathered in, slot-controlled, or otherwise saturated. SAT offers two strong FBOs (Signature Flight Support and Million Air), full international customs and immigration on the field, and runway capacity for every aircraft category up through ultra-long-range and VIP airliners.

For an Austin-area client based south of downtown — South Congress, Travis Heights, Buda, Kyle, San Marcos, New Braunfels — the 75-minute drive to SAT can rival or beat the drive to AUS during peak commute hours. Add the occasional pricing or availability advantage at SAT and the math sometimes points decisively south. We coordinate the ground transport leg when SAT is the right answer.

When SAT beats AUS for Austin travelers

SAT is the right Texas airport for an Austin private jet charter when: (1) you live in South Austin or further south and rush-hour drive time to AUS is brutal; (2) AUS is full or weathered in and your trip can't wait; (3) SAT pricing on a specific aircraft beats AUS by enough to offset the 75-minute drive; or (4) you're combining the trip with a San Antonio meeting, event, or family stop. For everything else, AUS or EDC is closer and faster.

We model the total door-to-door time on every quote — including drive time — so SAT only shows up when the math actually works for your trip.

Signature Flight Support at SAT

Signature Flight Support at SAT is the premium FBO on the field — full crew lounge, conference rooms, concierge ground handling, customs coordination for international arrivals, and 24-hour fuel and line service. Catering coordination with San Antonio's top restaurants, ground transportation handoff at the ramp, and rental car desks on site. For international Austin-region charters routed through SAT, Signature is typically the FBO of choice.

Aircraft up to ultra-long-range and VIP airliner classes are handled regularly.

Million Air at SAT

Million Air operates the other major private aviation facility at SAT. The terminal is purpose-built for business aviation with a strong crew lounge, conference space, and dedicated ramp. Million Air's reputation in Texas private aviation is built on consistency — the operations are tight, the ramp moves quickly, and ground handling is reliable. For Austin clients shopping pricing between SAT FBOs, Million Air often comes in competitively on fuel and handling.

Both Signature and Million Air at SAT have access to the same runways and the same customs facility — the choice between them is usually price, crew preference, or specific service requirements.

SAT runway, customs, and international handling

SAT's longest runway is 8,505 feet, which handles every aircraft category in business aviation through ultra-long-range jets and VIP airliners. SAT is a full international airport with on-field U.S. Customs and Border Protection — meaning private jet arrivals from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, or Europe clear customs through the FBO rather than the commercial terminal. For Austin clients flying internationally who can't get an AUS slot or prefer to avoid AUS congestion entirely, SAT is a clean alternative with the same customs capability.

CBP advance notification (eAPIS) is coordinated as part of any international SAT booking we handle.

Driving from Austin to SAT

The drive from downtown Austin to SAT is roughly 90 miles and 75 minutes via I-35 South. From South Austin neighborhoods, drive time is closer to 60–65 minutes. From San Marcos, SAT is about 40 minutes. From New Braunfels, SAT is about 30 minutes. We coordinate black car ground transportation for Austin clients who prefer not to drive themselves — typical cost runs $250–$400 each way depending on vehicle class.

For groups, we sometimes coordinate a small shuttle from Austin to SAT, which makes the math even more favorable on per-head basis when SAT pricing or availability beats Austin.

SAT as Austin's weather and capacity backup

Central Texas weather can shut down AUS and EDC during severe thunderstorm cells, especially in spring. SAT, 90 miles south, frequently stays open through those same systems. For Austin clients on a fixed schedule who can't wait out a weather hold, repositioning the departure to SAT is a routine plan-B that gets you wheels-up the same day. The same applies during F1 weekend and SXSW when AUS slot control and FBO ramp saturation push aircraft to alternate fields.
